Around South Padre Island

We spent last week at South Padre Island, where there was technology conference at the convention center. We stayed at some nice hotels. The first was the Holiday Inn Express, and I used my phone camera to take a picture out the window of some of the houses and condos going up around there.



The second picture was from a dinner we had at Schliterbahn, where a flock of seagulls was performing by a sand castle...actually, a flock of seagulls attacked the food on the tables when people weren't looking, and you can see a couple of them in the picture either on a table or flying around.




Later, as we were walking around the beach, the sand was blowing and I thought it looked interesting, so once again I took out my trusty phone camera.






Finally, there's a hotel that I think looks like a giant boot.

I must say it's been an interesting week. Monday morning started off with 73mph winds hitting our neck of the woods, and when I got to the library in the morning, I used my phone camera to take a picture of a tree in front of the library that had several branches torn right off.
The next day I went to South Padre Island, where there's a technology conference by Region One at the convention center. I walked around the beach, and going back to the hotel, I took a picture of what I think is an interesting looking house.
The aquarium in the hotel lobby is huge and has several interesting looking fish. Once again I took out my trusty phone camera and took a picture, this time a close up of some fish. To me they seem to be flying around in the lobby.

New Beginnings

Well, it's official. My wife officially received word that the was awarded a fellowship at UTA to work on her PhD. To do so, she has to leave her work, from which she can now officially retire, and move to Austin for at least a couple of years. It's a good opportunity. I'd been planning of staying here and continuing working part time at the writing center and going up every few days to visit, etc. She would be a full time student, though, and her academic career would keep her pretty busy, so I've never seen myself up there with her all the time. Or if I did, I'd have to find something to do to keep myself busy.
But wouldn't you know it; the day after she received word of her fellowship, I was told there was a position at the university I might consider. More about that later.
