Abuela

She was born in 1908 in Charcas, Mexico. I've never found out when exactly her parents came to live in the US and ended up in Donna, Tx., but she was very young. When she was thirteen, a man saw her somewhere, liked what he saw, and kidnapped her.
That was such a scandal that they made them get married, and that's how several years later, my mother was born. I think my grandmother was around 20 by then. The man (my grandfather) left her for another woman in Mexico soon after, and so my grandmother raised my mother with the help of her parents (my great grandparents) and her two brothers.
She worked hard, working as a maid for various Americanos (as the White Anglo Saxons were called) and raised my mother as best as she could.
I remember when I was little she used to walk everywhere. Maybe that's why she was always so healthy.
Now she's a little old lady with limited or no mobility, hard to understand for most of us except for my sisters (and even then barely).
Next week on October 25th she'll be 100.

Funny picture

I just thought this was a funny picture. The chihuahua reminds me of my daughter's dog, Chiclet, who's been staying with us for a few weeks.
