The building where my office is located is one of the oldest buildings at UPTA. In fact, I believe it was old when I was in college back in the 60's. Anyway, it's been refurbished and renovated in areas, so it's not quite the old building that I remember. Anyway, although there's been some work done on the outside, one thing that hasn't changed is the tree off the side in front. It's been there for ages. I'm not sure, but I think it's a type of tree from Africa, and it's hugh and green practically all year round. This is a picture I took pointing my phone camera up; the other picture is of a flower from another tree in front. I just thought it was pretty unusual looking and so I decided to take a picture of it too.
At times, the tree seems to be a home for a rare type of yellow bird that bird watchers from all over come to catch a glimpse of. At times during the year when the bird is supposed to be around, there are usually a lot of winter Texans, snow birds, and tourists outside just standing around with their binoculars and cameras ready.
Well, at this time, the second summer semester is almost over; in a couple of weeks, the new fall semester will start. I can hardly believe it will be the start of fall 2007 semester. I'm getting settled into the office and will be hiring several student workers in the next few days. It should be an interesting semester with this new program.
