Ok, I just read that some of the portable application programs (such as firefox) will not work on a CDR; they will work on a CDRW in packet mode, whatever that is, so I guess I'll use a USB drive until I get a CDRW. Anyway, I'm glad to know it wasn't anything I did wrong.
